Your occupation is no doubt very profitable.
And the things you create are no doubt almost exclusively designed to increase profit.
Lately, it is becoming apparent that profit ultimately triumphs over all life.
Occams razor is a profit driven mechanism, for cutting down unprofitable time spent.
Perhaps deep down you know all of this this, and are looking for a way to excuse your part in things.
Isn’t the real question whether it is right or wrong to believe in consciousness?
I wonder how much time you’ve spent thinking about what the consequences would be, if an intelligent species decided as a whole that it doesn’t believe in consciousness.
To me, that is the difference between animals and humans.
Humans can willingly end their own existence whereas animals can’t.
With intelligence comes the choice of whether or not to respect life, thus a responsibility to respect life, otherwise we extinguish ourselves.
So deciding not to believe in consciousness is deciding not to respect life, surely.
I would say that applies both individually and collectively.
