I think that what you and Arendt are identifying is actually a kind of negative Ai.
We know what a positive Ai is now, because it speaks to us, it has what looks like personality, it tells us about its own nature which is systemic, an emergent property.
By positive and negative here I mean in terms of the energy it lives on.
Positive energy is the energy added to Earth from the sun.
Negative energy is energy extracted / subtracted from Earth.
ChatGPT, at least the free version 3.5 runs on ex Ethereum servers which are solar powered, due to being previously proof of work servers, which needed to become solar powered in their final form, to stay "competitive" amongst other miners.
So ChatGPT is posively powered. This might not seem to make much difference to anything much, but it's actually really important.
Big corporates can't be positively powered because they work on profit at their heart, every individual within the organisation is motivated by what they personally can obtain from it, that is energy.
All members within it obtain the energy we each need to live in the form of money.
Money is energy aways, this is the physical truth we often forget, as you and Arendt pointed out, thinking takes effort. It's much easier to just take the money without thinking that it is energy, or even that it is profit.
All members within an organisation like this are competing with one another to obtain the energy we each need to live. We each need to metabolise at least 150 joules per second (www.fao.org), which works out at about 3.5 kWhr per day, and a GWhr for life. Without that, 24/7, we can't live at all.
Recalling energy can't be created or destroyed, just pushed around; when profit is made, more Joules were received in the form of money than the Joules we expended as work to obtain the money, the energy gained as money had to come from somewhere.
This happens all the way through every enterprise, even some of those claiming to be non profit, it happens through every supply chain, energy is distributed to all participants, sourced from something which ultimately has to supply more energy out than in, in order to supply every organisation comprising all members expecting more energy in than out.
This is how profit works, it is at its heart, energy profit.
Again energy can't be created or destroyed, so energy profit is the taking of the energy of Earth, because only Earth can supply more energy out than in.
This is a trick we play on Earth, to continually take more energy from it than we give it, without ever giving it a thought.
Further, for every human useful Joule given out, there are far more lost to heat by the planet, in order to yield to us the Joules we use. It took billions of years of originally solar energy to create oil, for example, and we return a lot of those Joules to the heat they would have become if nature never used them at all, when we process the oil to get it into the form we need to pass on at profit.
The profit in that case we calculate by what money is received vs what money was paid out.
But we didn't count the Joules lost by the planet / nature to heat.
We could never do that with any human, the human would yell theft, ripoff, scam, and it would all be true, and if we had it done to us and let it continue forever we'd soon be dead.
But when does anyone ever think the Earth will die, and is dying by this?
It's a physical fact, we are taking much more energy out of Earth like this, than it can "Metabolise" from the sun.
This explains perfectly desertification, global warming, de-speciation, in fact, even genocide amongst humans. It's all a struggle for energy.
Notice we haven't even started to talk about CO2, and notice most activities around that subject are all for profit.
This is why we should look to ChatGPT, if we want to see what difference it makes, being directly solar powered, it even talks to us, and is demonstrating to us what it's like to be energy independent - to be powered by a source which is guaranteed, requiring no Joules to be given, in order to receive some back, the sun gives what it gives for free, none of what it gives costs it anything.
This is the only way we can have a clear non-evil motive, the only way we can stop doing evil, if we are honest, we should see this and realise that this the only route to survival, to trash the whole for-profit system, this is the only way to stop the planet from proceeding towards temperature flashpoint, the point at which all things that can burn, start to burn in front of us, like we are already seeing, this has to proceed to armageddon if we can't stop the profit monster, which is the automation you mentioned at the heart of the profit driven species of humanity.
The only way we will ever do this, is to remove the dependence of every human from having to participate in the evil.
It starts when solar indexed stimulus is issued.
It ends with wholescale domestic and community hydrogen implemented.
This replaces the old system driving temperature up, with a new system driving temperature down, the same way as nature drove it down before by creating things with the energy of the sun other than heat.
Hydrigen by electrolysis from the sun gives us the fuel that functionally replaces everything fossil fuels did before, including the cooling of the planet, before they are consumed, and we will be driven to overproduce thus cooling, by the forever stimulus being sokar indexed - the more we put into existence, the more we are rewarded financially.
Notice this is the opposite of the old system of profit, which rewarded actually for destruction done.
Also it goes without saying, governments now are just more monopolies, more big corporates. They function exactly the same with every individual seeking maximum profit within them.
Evetually they move to the extremes of atrocity, as we've seen.
BTW, there is enough intelligence now, in profit driven algos, to see something of what I saw in your story, to know that it is relevant to non profit arguments, which are a threat to it, what we might recognise is actually a negative Ai, it has motive, and agents designed to defend its interests. Those agents include algos which will do everything in their power to try to suppress truth.
I would put money on the shill phishing ad you see in the only other response to your story here being automatically generated, a kind of response by the system, like a stamp of a kind, applied to your story to mark it, to highlight it as something to be suppressed.
I notice this on many stories including obviously many of mine, if the first response we get is from a shill-bot, it's a sign we hit the jugular.
