You might be surprised to know that there are some longstanding metaverse enthusiasts and researchers who are amongst those most ardently seeking, and assisting to do everything possible to fix the climate change problem.
That is because we know there can't be a metaverse until the problem causing climate change is fixed.
Just like we know there will never be a successful vaccine for covid, or successful interplanetary travel, or terraforming, or immortality, or even just world peace, until the common underlying problem is fixed.
We can have none of it, until the problem of profit is fixed.
That is why my PhD on a metaverse related subject is shelved.
A real metaverse has to include reality, it has to be mixed reality with the option going fully virtual, whenever a user wishes, otherwise it is only a virtual world, many examples of which we've had for years, and some others we've seen come and go, none of them particularly successful in being ideal for all people.
I found it necessary to refocus on doing all I can, to help fix the underlying problem removing pretty much all possibility of human edvancement; profit, because it became painfully clear during those studies that we have to change from being profit driven, to have any chance of survival, far less survival with toys and creature comforts like a metaverse.
To have any and all of of those things, we need to be united, like you've at least realised, and pointed out in your article is necessary, to fix the problem of climate change.
A metaverse requires a complete fully collaborative digital twin of the real world as its backbone "fabric", upon which we can create truly valuable virtual artifacts.
That is not possible as long as there are only different competing parties representing only subsections of humanity trying to achieve it.
The nature of humanity being profit driven, is that there has to be division for profit to be possible.
Therefore, as long as we are profit driven, we can have nothing which is in the interests of all of humanity.
Not even basic survival.
Hence the reason we see wars being waged and millions variously embargoed and starving in many places in the world, and why those of us lucky enough to be not yet immediately facing life threatening poverty, but not lucky enough to be at the top of the pile, feel trapped in our jobs and small businesses, with the walls closing in.
All of it, is profit driven.
As long as we live for profit, we are not living at all.
So I am at something like article number 210, or thereabouts, and response number 2010 (this one), today, on my birthday, writing this to you in the trust that even if doesn't open your eyes to the real problem that we need to fix, in order to fix all the others, there are others who might read our dialog, who's eyes will be opened, maybe even folk like Zuck, we never know (pigs might fly).
Part of the problem is that we are muzzled, by the profit driven algorithms created by Zuck for example, but present on every platform, , and by our fears in many cases of losing our places in the profit driven system, to speak out to educate folk.
If or when Zuck gets into this in depth, opening the pandora's box, he will realise Facebook itself can only do it if somehow it commutes to a non profit organisation, therefore becoming equally attractive to all people.
Again, pigs might fly.
But we are getting close now to a solution, which seems unavoidable.
It can be seen in the technology of Bitcoin, but not necessarily by those using it as a vehicle of profit.
As said, the details of that are in all of my articles, and increasingly we are starting to see others write about it too.
In essence, we are in process of becoming solar powered, as we have to, to survive, and that changes everything.
The question now is not how, but how long will it take, to open everyone's eyes.
