You are a doomer of the first order Michael, top of my list of doomers, this was incredibly well written.
My own concern about too much dooming is that we will stop looking for, and seeing the solution, because it is actually there, we just need to look at it to see it, but we are too busy dooming!
We just need to look at plants, and see how they work, to know how humanity has to work.
The plant forms its first leaves, stops taking its energy overdraft from Earth, returning the energy it loaned many thousands of times over.
We just formed our first leaves in the form of solar farms, all over Earth. The mechanism we use to transport the 150 or so Joules per second energy every human needs to live, 24/7, is money.
We use that, issued as debt, leveraging things built on that like capital and investment, to extract all our energy from Earth.
Now we have significant capital including fuel that functionally replaces fossil fuels being created by solar energy, which is actually free per Joule, we are struggling to believe anything can be for free, yet it is, and since energy is the input to all creation, now everything has to go for free with it, including all capital, nature insists, we can even see how to show proof of this, backed by data.
What we realise, when we see how this works, is that if we don't do anything really stupid, like blow ourselves up in a nuclear armageddon, we will actually be born into a new mode, one where we don't live for profit and destruction, sourced from energy we dug from Earth, but for charity and creation, sourced from energy we received for free from the sun, and in that state we can grow to many times our current population whilst doing only good for Earth.
Notice this also something like a human or other baby organism born from mother entitiy, it begins by taxing the energy of its mother, but becomes something adding to the energy of its mother after it is born, because is switches its energy dependence from its mother, to its environment, then passing on some of the eneryg it gets to its mother.
The energy from the sun is the energy of Earth's environment.
To us it effectively, we just need to connect input to output, using the only mechanism we have for transporting energy like plants do by nutrients - money, we have to start issuing it for free to monetise the product already being created for free from solar.
Getting word of this "Out there", rather than dooming, would be much more constructive, I think :)
