It is only one small part of the business of "Renewables" though, which we should be throwing in entirety onto the forest fires.
Tracing the causes and effects through, we end up at profit itself being an energy con.
Money is energy, always, it's what we each use to supply the physical 150 or so Joules per second we each need to metabolise 24/7 to live.
So when we put money into anything and get more back out, without us having to do anything more, the physical energy gained had to come from somewhere, because energy can't be created or destroyed, only pushed around.
We do all the pushing around by money.
This explains why rich folk get richer whilst the poor get poorer, and all historical colonialism, and actually slavery in all its forms.
We each are currently enslaved to this system, we have to participate, all of us, rich and poor, otherwise get trampled, or maybe write extraordinarily good stuff, like you do, but we aren't all similarly gifted, Cory.
Every profitable transaction results in a chain of events that ends with someone being forced to do the physical theft of energy from the planet.
Every debt created with interest, every investment made for profit is a requisition to steal some energy from the planet, by somebody.
This is what profit is, in terms of energy, it's theft, of energy that we never accounted for, until now, from the planet.
Every time it happens, it has to physically push up the temperature of the planet, because it has to involve conversion of something created historically by nature, originally using the energy of the sun, which would otherwise have been heat on the planet, back to that heat, as if nature never used it.
We are systematically undoing everything created by nature like this, this is the real, physical reason at the heart of global warming.
All the other things like CO2 are not causes but symptoms of the single basic problem of energy crime, committed against the planet, which we are all party to, by each of us locked into this deadly system in order to survive, so that we each can get our 150 Joules per second, plus an undetermined margin, because we can never predict the future, we don't know up front what energy demands are going to be made for our bodies, we have to always over-supply to some extent.
Anyhow the solution, the only solution, which is fully dictated by full analysis of the problem, the global energy problem, now incidentally including war heading for full on nuclear armageddon, is to remove all need for profit.
That can be done at any point, any time money issuers see and understand the issue, by beginning to issue solar indexed stimulus.
This is the only way to monetise economic product being created for free per Joule of energy received from the sun.
So it's the only way to maintain value in money, in the scenario we are moving to solar, the only mathematically positive energy source.
We don't really, and can't really start using that source until it is monetised.
Until then, whilst the availability of it continues to increase, transferring from availability of energy drawn from the planet by profit, which is becoming more and more difficult, the availability of extracted energy decreasing, we will see the energy continue to slowly disappear from money.
So we will find it harder and harder to keep making a crust from money-as-debt.
This goes for rich and poor, the crust the rich have got used to is eaten away, bigger bite by bigger bite, the same way as the poorest of us taking the smallest bites possible.
Nature is progressively removing the energy from money as debt, the first time in history, because we started growing our leaves, but are still not using the energy from them.

We all have a part to play in this solution, it’s complicated, way too much to explain in a response like this, but I hope you can see this is the self verifying truth, enough for you to start researching, and reporting what you see, from your point of view.

You are lucky enough to not be so dependent on it for now, as it might be argued I am too, we have a little autonomy to at least talk about it and publicise what we are seeing of this.

It isn’t something conjured up, or devised, it is observation of current events, nothing more, and no-one is to blame, it is a non-human system which is causing all the problems, the system powered entirely by mathematically negative energy, giving us a scientific definition of evil, everything bad we can imagine comes from it whilst it lives, as surely as ChatGPT lives, assisting us to see and understand it (ChatGPT seems to be already powered by mathematically positive energy due to the history of its servers, former proof-of-work servers).

This is what you just scratched the surface of, by pointing out the folly of carbon offsets. It’s obviously bigger, a much bigger beast to kill.
