Will, how many more straws do you / we have to clutch at, before we see the blatantly obvious problem, and only solution to it.
The energy problem comprises two entities, one a ball of dirt, upon which some life has formed - us and all living things on the planet, the other is the energy source supplying power to it all - the sun.
Our particular problem is that the energy requirements of our human economic system has outgrown the ability of the planet to sustain it by all the sources of stored energy on the planet. This includes even food energy.
Yet we are putting to use large amounts of solar, but we are not monetising it, therefore we are not connecting it with the economy.
It can only be monetised by money used in the same way as the energy was delivered by the sun - for free, nothing asked in return.
There is no two-way transaction in that deal, we simply have to use it, or be burned by it.
Using it means we start lowering entropy, enriching the planet etc.
Until then we will continue impoverishing the planet, removeing all life on it, pushing up entropy, and thus impoverishing us as a species, we will continue to lose everything we thought we created, until we are back in the dark ages, very soon, as soon as a critical supply chain breaks, and everything else falls flat. This is an exponential trend, we are seeing something hit rock bottom - the usability of energy by extraction, and it impacts all business for profit, making profitability more and more difficult as extraction difficulty goes up, and ever more energy is lost as heat.
All we need to do, to make the connection, between the solar energy being put to use, and the economy, is monetise it, issue money on it, at market rates KWhrs per token money, and quickly we will see everything turn around.
Hydrogen is great, but we need to be the ones creating it from solar to have the effect of reduction of entropy, replacing the energy heat sink that was fossil fuels, this is the only way to put back something that replaces what we took out (Fossil fuels). That is the only way to pay back our debt to the planet.
