We are all humans John, with respect, I think if you think what is known about Assange's love life makes him a "Player", you've led a pretty sheltered life ;-) Of course he is as good as dead if he does get extradited to US. As for his country that has thrown him to the dogs, he has plenty of support there, just not the government. You might notice Caitlin Johnson is from the same place and is equally critical of their government, which is doing a deal to become indebted to your government for nuclear subs. Of course they won't want to mess up their chances of personally retiring on some US money, leaving their citizens to pay their bills.
This idea that the US or any other Western government is doing what is best for it's citizen's ought to be kicked into touch, they are all the same, greedy selfish oligarchs. Trusting in them is like trusting in the company we might work for, a big mistake, they will always throw you to the dogs rather than take a hit to their profits.
