Very true, but only covers a small part of the problem, it seems to me.
Much of how we think depends on economy, much more than we realise, I believe, and that relates directly also to energy.
When we break it all down and trace all of the relationships through using formal systems Engineering techniques (An unusual application of those skills and tools, since there is no immediately apparent way to make money from it), we find that ownership of property, and of all kinds of capital, are fundamental to the problem.
Our tendency to lay claim to things for our own exclusive use, is what extends to eventually to some people owning way more than their "fair share", and being rewarded for committing all manner of "Sin", leveraging the power of what they own, to gain even more. No-one is immune to that tendency, no matter how much we believe we might be, it is a force far greater than the mind of any individual can withstand, and it is associated with stored energy, which is what is represented by money as stands.
It makes us literally insane, it seems to me.
Now we might understand a little of Diogenes, who insisted on owning nothing and living in a barrel, to have understanding of all things he could see. Diogenes was the only one sane. It was everyone else who was insane.
We see this insanity leads in the end even to planetary destruction and extinction of all life.
It is a fiendish problem, because the further into it we become invested by the passage of time, generation after generation becoming progressively more and more blind to our own part in the problem, the more difficult it becomes to fundamentally change the way things work, because the majority don't see any need to change things, until after it may be way too late to reverse the damage done.
Would you give up ownership of your house, that you might have worked all your life to own?
Would anyone give up their pension or savings, to save the world?
The solution some of us see, and write about in places like Medium, involve changing money to align with energy, which means all people have to receive free money, but for it to work, all people have to understand and be happy with that outcome and all of its implications.
One of the implications is that no-one will wish to own capital in the future, as there will be no reward for owning anything.
It wiil happen when we monetise sunlight, but getting folk to understand and accept this seems almost impossible, as things stand, most seem hell bent on war.
It is obviously much easier to generate support for war, than for fixing the fundamental problem of our energy coming from the wrong place.
And this war, coming at a time when the environment cannot support the environmental impact of another war, looks like our last, it seems to me.
The end of days, however we wish to define it, both scientifically and religiously, really does seem to have arrived.
Btw I too have a teenage child, who is the reason I've spent so much time to try to sort this out, and come to this very worrying conclusion. I would never have done for myself, if I had no child, I would probably still be knee-deep in the war machine.
