I would suggest though that we find a way to not blame anyone for things, because in the stakeholder model, everyone needs to be incentivised, to do what they can towards making the required changes.
Taking your logic to conclusion, everyone is jointly responsible for participating in the profit driven system of extraction. We can't really say we would have done much different from them individually, if our path was exactly the same as theirs, and we each still participate in the system, even if minimally, we have no choice, but to carry on buying the things we need to eat for example in supermarkets, putting fuel in our cars to get to work, buying the cars, phones and PCs we need to stay connected, etc, it all adds up to the system locked into extraction by the mechanism of profit being wholly dependent on energy by extraction from Earth, thus net destruction and thus temperature rise.
Knowing about this puts us in a good place to be able to quit it when the opportunity arises to quit (When the solar stimulus begins to be issued), but carrying on without knowing what we are doing is mindless destruction which we can never stop, it seems to me.
