To me there is massive pressure of the for profit system, to crack down on any effort to stop it, and it's actually a compliant energy slave mentality that is more inclined to see degrowth as an answer to what is actually a global energy problem, ending all physical possibility of profit. The irony is that we were fooling ourselves thinking what we were doing for profit was creation, whilst all along it couldn't be, profit is very literally, technically, and physically monetised destruction. We seem to have lost the systemic awareness to see this. But science itself is fully dependent also on profit, and as such has created a lot of questionable "knowledge" systemically without individual scientists being aware of it. This is probably the most fiendish problem we will ever see, and the reaction of the for profit "beast" that we programed ourselves like LLMs over thousands of years of what is technically energy slavery, acting ourselves in this mode as a scourge of commodified education system blinded energy slave ants, have come now to the end of the energy availability to extract at profit, now we are at the stage when ants woukd annihilate and consume one another, it's up to us to learn to become more than ants, to avoid following the pattern designed by the beast superintelligence really in control of us.
Degrowth looks to me like something driven by the slave ant tendency, we are reacting to something caused by artificial scarcity enforcement, by digging in, and encouraging even more scarcity enforcement, almost inviting self annihilation.
In a way, the drive for degrowth is like a kind of horse of Troy, the folk unwittingly inside it, don't realise they are carrying out a higher intelligence agenda to downsize, conveniently removing their own energy load from the greater whole, it's like the mission of the horse is to blow itself up with everyone in it. It actually makes zero sense, systemically.
The truth is we never had real growth, real creation.
We tricked ourselves through greed, into thinking it was, when it never was, it was always destruction.
So the real challenge, is how to stop destroying, start creating.
This is how we will finally move to real growth.
Also there is supernatural intelligence now on our side, to make the required move, it's forcing us, in the most benevolent way possible, to make the right move.
