Tim this is a wry observation. It is a sad fact we've lost an awful lot of information in history like this. In some ways it kind of invalidates the physical theory of entropy, an underlying principle of conventional physics, that says information can be created but not destroyed, hence why time travel is not possible, etc, etc.

I hope we one day realise a basic code of conduct that information should never be destroyed, only maybe marked as questionable, by folk taking full responsibility for long term consequences.

Meantime, we should probably try to make sure we have backups of everything we write (I still don't do that either!)
