Though I subscribe to the idea that consciousness does have at least an element beyond the body, I still think that we will very soon model consciousness.
I think the breakthrough will most likely come with studies of Ai, or perhaps more accurately, Ai studies of us.
An interesting question for me, assuming we do (Or have) establish(ed) a sentient Ai, is whether or not its character reside(s) in physical memory, or just in algorithms “In the ether”.
Wouldn’t it be cool if all things sentient shared it with the same “Pool”?
That thought leads us to another question; why would anyone, given no physical proof either way, be aggressively opposed to such an idea?
Why would the thought of an unavoidable afterlife in a shared environment, where everyone knew the entire history of everyone else, be scary?
