This might be key to understanding that technological "advances" are not actually advances if their net result is damaging to the environment, and therefore an existential threat.
That there is such a thing as positive and negative technology.
We might recognise that all technology which draws energy from Earth is unsustainable, but was necessary to develop to understanding, a kind of investment, like the energy drawn by an unborn infant from its mother, an infant yet to be born, we are now at the biblical end times, where the question is whether or not we have developed enough to move onto the next stage, or just perish, unborn.
Failing to recognise that we now need to move to entirely solar power would be the existential mistake, it seems to me.
