This makes sense, but you couldn't be more wrong about growth. Growth on mathematically positive energy has to happen, to put right all the harm done to date by growth on mathematically negative energy. As said, you have to see this as similar to the transition that happens within a plant, when it first forms leaves, there has to be some confusion within the plant when this happens at first, because suddenly the energy the plant needs to live on comes effortlessly from above, whilst until then it had to work to extract all its energy from Earth.
Nothing could be natural from that point of view.
