This is perfect, characterising what we should call Bullshit Industry (An obvious extension of Graeber's Bullshit Jobs), thanks for posting.
Google does look like the index of Bullshit industry, more or less.
Notice also bullshit industry is something mathematically tying us into enenergy by extraction, which mathematically leads to a burning planet, which we can see is starting to happen.
Bullshit industry is industry that exists only to "Make a living" for anyone or any bunch of people. Few people do it from the heart, most know they would much rather be doing something else, something that actually adds value to the world, something with meaning, but they / we do it because we don't see any other way to make the money we need to live.
I write almost exclusively on everything affected by the current move to solar, and how we can get the most out of it, by working with it rather than trying to resist it.
It will remove all Bullshit industry. So a technical acid test of Bullshit industry is to ask if it could exist in a purely solar powered world, where we were issuing all money in response to solar energy received. If the answer is no, for any reason, then it is Bullshit industry.
The bogus locksmith you mentioned earlier would not bother trying to carry out his work of pretending to fix locks, if he / she had adequate income from a generous solar backed UBI, for example, so bogus locksmiths are a kind of bullshit industry, as is most finance industry, and even banks, VC investors who only do it for profit, even including political lobbying, and of course funding things like google.
All of that removed, removes our dependency from extracted energy, and vastly reduces the expected power load we think will need to be supplied by solar backed by hydrogen.
Good news, but when are we going to go with it, is the question, it seems to me.
