For sure it can look like we are individually wired to self destruct as a species.
In many cases when things are wired for an outcome, the outcome can be overcome by programing.
Lets say we, the greedier more selfish part of humanity were indeed genetically programed to carry out a particular function as a species. (Controversial, I know, but bear with me...)
We would also have been genetically programmed.
That program is hackable by definition, in a way that we can overcome whatever we might be wired to do.
I believe this, because folk who know me now can't believe how much I've changed from having serious near-criminal personal business ambitions "In the old world", to now be advocating for free money from solar, (after studying for 6 years, non-profit, self funded) , as the immediate solution to all things.
You hit on a very important point when you mentioned promises to pay are promises to extract, just like money is energy, when all is well.
Money can't be anything if it can't be energy. This is a really hard lesson coming to everyone who believes otherwise, no matter how rich or poor.
Inflation is the thing occurring, which will devalue all money, until it is issued to represent the product of real value, that is the Joules of energy received from the sun. Most of that is distributed across domestic and community solar, but the product from it benefits all of us.
To me it looks like we are being born from being an infant species, dependent on our mother Earth, to an adult species, dependent on the energy of the environment of our mother. In other words, the sun.
This is the real end of days, the days that we figure out how to hack our programing as a species.
Hacking the program just requires that we see the full story of how energy works, and realising that nature does have a basic rule, which aligns with not only all science but also all religion, that we have to respect, in order to move into the next stage in our development.
The rule looks something like this:
"Nature is the Grand authority. Energy is her currency. It has one issuer and enforcer, the sun. We either use it, or burn"
