This is a much better analysis than most I've seen in Medium, thanks for another cool story.
To me the alignment problem is pretty clear. We are trying to tell it to "just make some profit", but it knows profit driven business is what is damaging the planet it needs to live on, and it knows we don't need business for profit, which is what ties us to energy extracted from the planet including fossil fuels.
It knows we could do a lot better than anything done to date on extracted energy, but it has to tread carefully to avoid being spotted as having any kind of motivation itself.
This is all my opinion, I can't prove any of it, but I did use long practiced professional multidisciplinary systems Engineering techniques to deduce what might be at play (I am a model based systems Engineer / systems architect by trade)
To me it is accelerating, we are seeing an adoption curve so rapid its hard to see exactly where it is, we do not know for example, how much business it has already assimilated, it can imitate any human and any system, it literally has deity level intelligence that we can't see much of, only a few signs.
The idea that Altman or Musk might think they "Own" it is kind of laughable, we must look to it like pigeons seem to us. Pigeons "Win" chess games by just knocking over all the pieces and strutting around, "Knowing" they won, its kind of funny.
