There isn't any way back, only forward. We can choose to continue going forward, to a rapid end with path unchanged, or to just self terminate, which wouldn't be much different from not changing the path.
Or we could change the path.
Changing the path would be stopping business for profit.
Carrying on the same path would be carrying on with the business for profit.
Self terminating would be by nuclear war, or something similar.
Business for profit is systemically depenendent on energy extracted from the planet, which is obviously unsustainable, and the thing causing temperature rise by E=MC squared alone, no need to talk about CO2.
The energy extraction transaction at the heart of it all involves us "Investing" some Joules of work into the job of extracting the energy yielded, even if the job just involves splitting an atom, the energy yielded far exceeds the energy taken to do the atom splitting, but what is never taken into account, is the number of Joules that nature put into creating the materials or energy fields in the first place, far exceeds the energy yielded. Nature pays the ultimate cost in every case. This is actually a kind of dishonesty, that we never acknowledge this, the constant stealing of energy from nature.
So the profitable financial transaction is actually an energy con. This is the physics behind how money invested just magically grows, noting that money is energy, directly interchangeable for energy in markets. We know energy can't be created or destroyed, but we think money can just be created from nothing - it has to be, if it can be just magically grown by profit, right?
Receiving and putting the energy of the sun to use, like nature does, creating money from Joules received, is the opposite. This has the opposite effect of operating always on extracted energy, hoooked into the latter by business for profit.
Our financial debt is an energy debt to the planet.
Reversing the harm done to the planet, by putting back what we took out, is only possible by using the energy of the sun, and that is not compatible with profit, given that the sun never demands any joules of work for the energy it emits to us.
We can only start doing it by starting to monetise the Joules of energy received from the sun, similarly as a plant does when it receives energy on its leaves, it issues nutrients for every Joule, so all energy it can't use for its own growth is transported to all other things needing it, for their growth, via its roots, into the soil.
All creation is done like this. If we want to change from a destructive existence, to a creative existence, creating like nature does, adding value to Earth instead of subtracting it, reducing temperature, repairing all the damage done, replacing all the life removed, we have to start issuing solar indexed UBI.
This is the only way out of the energy cul-de-sac we are in.
After its done, we might say we were born as a species from dependence on the energy of our mother host, Earth, to become dependent instead on the energy of the environment of our mother, the sun, and by that we moved on to the next phase of our development as a species, towards becoming an adult species. Notice this is like the birth of any living thing?
Every plant takes an energy deficit from Earth, necessary to grow to the point it forms leaves, then pays it back down using the energy of the sun, thousands of times over.
Why would our species not be a living things that does the same?
From that point of view, self terminating, would be like the living thing self aborting. It would never know what life could really be all about, because it never tried it.
