The Triumph of Avarice
An open letter to the Spirit of JP Morgan
JP, presumably you are still out there, as they say the strongest of people never really die, your strength of will lives on.
Your Bank certainly does anyway.
My letter to you now, more than a hundred years after your passing, concerns the current predicament of humanity, which as far as I can see, is largely down to you.
The predicament, is our inability to see our future.
Any future.
I speak not for me personally, as our way out of this mess is as clear as day to me.
But for most of the people I seem to come into contact with, their view appears to be restricted by a mindset.
A mindset of scarcity, when there is no scarcity.
By enforcing scarcity on another man, Nikola Tesla, who also knew there was no scarcity, you cemented an unnecessary legacy of scarcity enforcement on the whole of humanity, it seems to me.
Now it looks like we might not be able to break out of that mindset as a species.
That Nikola could have successfully harnessed the power of the sun, there must have been no doubt in your mind at least, for you to have removed his funding, because for sure you would have realised that with infinite free energy, would also have come free wealth for all people.
But all you were interested in, was how well off you were, relative to other people.
But there you are, dead, just like all other dead humans. In the end you are no richer than the poorest dead pauper.
Since you passed, we have had two major World Wars, and the development of Nuclear Weapons, and Nuclear Power, and amidst all of this, untold suffering and skirmishes over resources and material wealth; murderous crime, all over the world, all which has resulted in much death and misery.
In the thirteen or so years that you lived, after removing Nikola’s funding, there would have been, in the presence of free money from free energy, and with the dilution of all capital, and most possibilities of profit, instead research happening on all kinds of things that no-one wished to fund “For profit”.
Things like genuinely successful vaccines for diseases not yet encountered, like the Spanish Flu, which killed even more people than the first world war, which both happened only a year or two after you passed.
And other things leading eventually to immortality, even for people of your age.
So, if you had not been so taken up with the value of your own capital, relative to others, you might even have been still alive today, both you and Nikola, and we might have been now travelling to the stars, with other geniuses in addition to people like Albert Einstein, and a whole host of others who lived and died around the world, unfound geniuses.
We would have been infinitely better off, no matter how we look at it.
Here we see the real Triumph of Avarice; the impending extinction of all life on Earth.
So you made a mistake, with your Avarice.
Now, if you still have any power at all to do something about that, maybe by whispering some sense into those still believing in your old ways of scarcity enforcement, please do it.
Unless maybe this is what you wanted all along; you dead, and all of humanity facing extinction along with all other life on Earth, a hundred or so years later?
