The system puts this story as a twelve minute read. It's much more than that, compliments to your effort, if you typed it all out rather than dictating to a machine, I guess this must have been at least two hours of your effort. If you were using an average PC it would be drawing about 150 Watts, which adds to your own 150 Watts you needed to metabolise for those two hours, so 0.3 KWhrs times two; 0.6 kWhrs of energy. It's winter in the West, so you probably needed to have about a KW of heating to keep you toasty whilst writing it, that's so now your energy cost of writing the story might be about 2.6KWhrs.
But what of us reading it, if we were all using PCs to read it, all nice and toasty, all in the West in winter, let's say a half hour at 1.3KWhrs per hour, it's 0.65KWhrs per person per read. Let's say your story is read by 0.01 percent of the readership in Medium, which might be about 30 million, regardless of what the platform reports to you (and pays you for), so maybe 3000 reads, this is about 1.95MWhrs, add to that whatever energy was used by the network to process and deliver your story to those readers and it's well over 2MWhrs of energy.
What did that do; it raised the temperature of the planet, just a little.
The Romans didn't have this problem of every bit of human effort manifesting as exponentially rising heat, as things stand.
I think the best use we can put our energy to is highlighting this, and working what it is we need to do to not only stop it, but reverse it.
Also we should realise it is loss of energy in money which is devaluing it.
We can do it by reversing the polarity of the energy we are putting to use, from something extracted from the planet, to something added to the planet.
This would also sort out the value of money, because we have to start issuing it for free, as solar indexed stimulus, to make it honestly reflect energy put to use.
Is it not devaluation of money which is at the heart of the crumbling civilisation we are seeing, and the depletion of planetary energy by sustained energy robbery of the planet, using the instrument of profit, which is bringing on the impending planetary disaster?
There is more about this in "The Energy Polarity Multiplier Framework", as well as the free energy principle (FEP).
