Thanks for your article, your grasp of things relevant to conquesting Mars is better than most I've read in Medium (I have experience of building things intended for space, maybe you do too). Also your opinion of Musk, yes he is probably a genius, but a somewhat misguided one, imho, this is why he is wrong about Mars, he doesn't realise the effect of what is misguiding him. I think it is the same thing driving Bill Gates, profit.

Like Gates, Musk is positioning himself not to be ready to save humanity, when some disaster or another strikes, he is positioning himself to make profit.

That is what Gates oviously did in the years running-up to Covid, evidenced by his books warning of, and predicting occurrence of a deadly virus, and then his financial involvement in vaccine research companies, influencing them to withold vaccine related "Intellectual Property" from some lab-capable poorer countries like India, experiencing some of the worst effects of the virus, all to maximise shareholder profits. A lot of folk died because of that, and that is probably what derailed vaccine research from having any possibility of achieving its primary aim - to wipe out the virus.

Instead it just became an instrument for making some very big profits, forget the original aim.

The way it should have been developed, is for all research on it around the world to have been pooled, all information shared, all publicly accessible, but profit in that scenario would have been impossible, because to make profit, there has to be some form of division, for one side or another to make profit from the other(s). This is also the basis for colonialsm, which has to have a target / victim population from which to make profit, and the basis of all media platforms, to be able to take profit from all users, and lately the basis of all governments, to take profit from all subjects.

So how do we end that, if we really accept we want to end it?

Like you say, something big is coming, this would be the opportunity to end the several thousand years sordid run of all things for profit. To understand it, and therefore maybe to universally support it, everyone has to recognise the effect of being driven by profit ourselves, in each and every one of us, I believe. I think the more capital we have at our disposal, relative to other people, the harder that is to do.

But I have enough faith in humanity to believe we can, and will do it.
