Thanks for your article. I always liked Porto because when I first went there, in 2006, it reminded me of Glasgow, my one time hometown as a kid in the seventies, though I liked the refurb that happened around the time of the new Metro, I guess from when it became a world heritage zone. It came with mixed blessings, but I guess now Porto will be like anywhere else in the world, at least in Europe and the US, in limbo due to the energy, climate, and economic crisis.
My most vivid memory from Porto, was being on the lower tier of the bridge at new year probably 2010 or 2011 when you were there, crazy fireworks going off, and the biggest crowd I've ever been in, those of us on the lower road part of the bridge, cut off from traffic for the evening, were literally swinging on the lower part of the bridge, suspended as it was from the rigid upper part (With the metro line up there), it suffered from the spontenous swinging action that happens on some bridges when overloaded with lots of folk or animals, once the swinging starts, it can't be stopped, the whole thing was moving like a snake, and no one could move to get off if we wanted to. So everyone just danced on the spot, scared, but exhilirated - as an Engineer I thought it was crazy, I have never been in a more dangerous situation I think, but it was fun :)
