Thanks for that profound observation of the human condition.
On a detail, I doubt very much that Musk actually believes Mars is somehow livable, or even reachable by humans. He is all about dangling carrots for investors, the modern version of a snake oil salesman. It amazes me how he tricks investors, his fancy footwork is second to none.
How does he, and they, rationalise sending wave after wave of thousands upon thousands of shrapnel satellites (Starlink) into orbit, which add to the risk of humans flying into space, at the same time as they are marketing such flights?
Recall also Starlink was actually not needed, it was a knee-jerk US competitive reaction to Huawei nearing methodical completion of 5G, after about 15 years research.
I still say as a Systems Engineer with satellite engineering experience, Starlink satellites will start to fail at an uncontrollable rate, becoming actual full blown shrapnel, because they are not radiation hardened, to endure the environment of space, which is incredibly expensive, and takes a really long time. They were done in an incredible rush, and the cost of that will be the end of the project, hopefully wthout damaging too many others, or god forbid, costing any lives.
