Thanks for another great roundup, well done.
On the feared Dengue fever outbreak I noticed the source of the article, Forbes, claims there is no specific treatment for dengue. This might not be true, there might exist specific treatments in Cuba.
It wouldn't be the first time Cuba has developed treatments for some awful things that went unnoticed, due to the political moves to try cancel Cuba, it was Cuba that developed the now recognised treatment for Ebola, they sent more doctors than anywhere else at the time to tackle the Ebola crisis that happened in Africa a few years ago, and obviously stopped it in its tracks. Before then it was thought there was no known treatment of Ebola.
I believe there is treatment for Dengue known in Cuba because there was a Cuban Dengue outbreak in the days after Hurricane Maria, which a large number of people became illl with, those folk along with the rest of the majority of the population had been detailed to work throughout Cuba towards repairing the damages done to infrastructure (which Puerto Rico failed to do in response to the same storm, due to the US privatisation of the resources and organisations needed to do the work, and subsequent lack of funding by the US to pay them to do it).
Anyhow I had some friends who were affected and was in contact throughout the events of Hurricane Maria whilst they related how the government had detailed everyone ill to go for treatment, and all were given treatment which obviously worked.
Cuba lost maybe a dozen people to Hurricane Maria. The majority of those killed died in buildings that fell in Havana, having failed to obey government directives to get to shelters.
Puerto Rico lost around 3000 people, mostly by disease and lack of food and water, due to lack of infrastructure, after losing an estimated 200 to 300 in the main event of the Hurricane, due to no shelters existing.
So if a Dengue outbreak does come along for the US, or anywhere else, I would suggest requesting help from Cuba.
We never know, they might still help despite their dismal treatment historically by US authorities.
