Stephen, I find it helps to imagine what it must be like as a cell in a plant of nature, any plant, take a tree for example, at the point where the leaves have just begun to form. In the life of the plant until that time, all energy to fuel the growth of the plant had to be hauled up from Earth, against the forces of gravity, via the action of nutrients.
But now the leaves are forming, and starting to absorb energy from the sun, and nutrients now forming at the leaves, with the effect that the upwards flow of energy from Earth, against gravity, is being rapidly overtaken by the flow of energy now from the leaves downwards, assisted by gravity.
Us hard workers within the plant had always been employed to haul energy upwards, but now we are finding our work becoming less and less productive, as energy flows past us, downwards, more and more of us are being made redundant, but we don't even see the energy flowing past us as the reason why we are becoming redundant, because it didn't need to be hauled, how can it be energy of any value?
I see this as where we are at now as a species, we are at the point where we've been sprouting our human equivalents of leaves, in the form of solar farms all over Earth, and energy from solar, already at a rate of tens of GigaJoules per second in every developed country is starting to flow past us, beyond our perception, doing useful work to Earth, effectively replacing a lot of the work we previously did by energy from extraction, that we've worked hard for, and died to extract, for thousands of years.
To me, our resistance to seeing this change is a necessary product of our environment that existed throughout that time. In order to do the work, we had to believe in it, 100%, which leaves no room for any other possibility.
Ironically; criminals, loafers, scroungers, and the very rich are far more likely to see what is really happening, than folks who "honestly" worked hard all of their lives, doing their bit towards extraction.
Now the only thing still needing to be done, to enable the transition from extracted energy in the plant of humanity, to full-on solar, is a change in the way money is issued, from being issued as debt, to being issued as solar energy put to use.
How we would see that in action, is by massive issue of money to all people, since the energy received is donated to us from an external source, money issued as debt (Which can only translate ultimately to promises to do the work of extraction), the money has to be issued for free, otherwise it is not being honestly issued, therefore will devalue in markets, since it is not the money which is the thing of value, but the product being put to use.
So until then we will see relentless inflation, until this is put right, the only way that it can be.
The good news I hope you see in realising that humanity is really just a huge plant, capable of adding more value to Earth than we can currently imagine, is that this removes our perception of humanity being something damaging to Earth.
Indeed humanity has been a burden to date, but trace through any one of the supply chain benefits of turning sunlight into product, and we see many, many more. The more we look there, the more we see, and yet there is no pollution, other than the pollution associated with implementing the first solar farms using materials and wealth from extraction, which is cancelled out many times over by the benefits of the free energy coming in. It is like the inverse of a rabbit-hole, the information in there is seemingly limitless, and yet none of it is bad, all good. In that schema we can grow to many thousands of our current size, and the growth itself only results in more good being added to Earth.
I hope more of us will see this soon, and write about it. Such a transition can't come soon enough, it seems to me.
