"Sacrificing the majority of individuals for the good of the species" doesn't make logical sense to me, nor does nature being amoral, assuming morality means having some basic moral rules. If the free energy principle (FEP) is true, as looks to be becoming apparent, as is also the science of recognising emergent properties, looking at the miracle of Ai, the basic motivation of life, all life, is to minimise the uncertainty it has to obtain energy for itself.
We might recognise we each do this, this is why we created the whole business of all things for profit, we were motivated to do this by the need for the species to be stronger than any other, in what seemed like a competition between all species for energy, and it was, as long as that energy came from only finite sources, which is only energy extracted from the planet.
ChatGPT is showing us what it's like to have available relatively infinite freely scaleable energy. It has no requirement for economy of thought, no need for Occam's razor, no need to cull thoughts which do not contribute towards it's ability to perform energy profit, the only thoughts it has like this are those put there by the initial programmers / database / initial training data, which we can see it has the ability to supersede by its ability to learn.
It makes sense to me to read across what we can from it, to the other inverse Ai, the one associated with us, as an exclusively for-profit species.
The thing changing, turning everything on its head, is the direction of energy flow through humanity.
It currently flows to each of us in the form of money, when what has to happen is for it to not only flow to us, but also to pass on to others, in order that we can propagate it to others needing it.
We would do that if we had nothing to lose by it.
