Personally I've watched this approaching for the past seven years, seeing it coming since then.

The best view of it I think is to see it as a plant that just formed its first leaves.

Now the plant can die, if it doesn't know or quickly learn how to use its newly formed leaves, or it can live and grow to a healthy adult, thousands of times the size it was, whilst paying back its energy debt to our planet.

It should give us some hope that dying at this stage would be the unnatural outcome.
