Paul, if you go down into the non profit analysis, accepting that profit itself is directly related to the temperature impulse, by profit always resulting in extraction work of some kind or another needing to be done to redeem the profitable outcome, the planet supplying the implicit energy which we see is the profit (Technically we stole the energy from the planet, to create what people perceive as profit, it is dishonest at its heart), solar becomes part of the only solution which is dictated by the full analysis of the problem. This is a fundamental tenet of formal Systems Engineering, we get to the solutions if there are any, by analysing the problem to death. Analysis includes all concerns of all stakeholders. Showing that we have included the planet as a stakeholder is how we would prove we are actually aligning with nature.
This is a formal way of countering accusations; we are working with nature, not against it. Obviously solar by itself is not the whole solution, for that we have to meet the concern of continuity of power supply, which means we have to have some kind of storage. Assuming that to be batteries at that point in the analysis would be "solutioneering", that means jumping to the solution before we've fully defined it by fully defining the problem.
Breaking down the human stakeholder, concerns, we get that transportation is needed, actually vital, including all air transportation, for the transport of fresh fruit for example, but also humans.
Currently there is no known practical method of scaling up battery powered flight to any form that could fly humans for any distance.
So practical air transportation is physically impossible by batteries, the power to weight ratio is out by orders of magnitude. For sure if Elon could have developed that, it would be here by now, wouldn't it?
So all the future plans for Tesla to be eyeing up the Lithium reserves around the world, with the disasters that will bring to the countries plundered by it, are based just on land transportation. It ignores an awful lot of stakeholder concerns, giving the doomers a lot of ammo to aim at "Green industry" planning on extracting Lithium, to give us a cleaner planet. But there would be a lot of profit in it, which brings us back to energy requiring to be extracted from Earth, in addition to the Lithium, to redeem the profits sought by investors, who only want to see profit, they don't care that the energy that gave them their profit was extracted from the planet, directly resulting in the first impulse of temperature rise, which is multiplied by all the multipliers, in turn exponentially related to occurrence of planetary burning.
Obviously Investors are stakeholders too, but there I believe we are seeing a case of Stakeholders not knowing what it is they actually want. Not an unusual situation, this is normal, we often have to brainstorm individuals to find what it is they really want. Like this we might see that profit serves a purpose, it is a solution to a deeper need, the need for physical security, which in turn comes down to security of the supply of energy needed for the individual to maintain life by metabolising around 150 Joules per second 24/7. Notice this is a very similar concern as the one mentioned earlier, for continuity of power supply. Again we see solutioneering. Profit, and ammassement of wealth, is fundamentally a concern of continuity of energy supply to our own bodies. We can never be free of that concern by amassment of capital, not with all the billions anyone might make, all of it can be lost in an instant, but of course the human instinct is to keep building it anyway, in pursuit of the physically unattainable.
I think this is what drives most people for profit.
So the solution must make even the most profit oriented individuals feel happy that their concerns of having the energy they need, are not only met in the way they are now, but actually guaranteed, unconditionally like they seek to achieve by profit, yet can never achieve by profit, because their wealth as stands has to be finite, because it is all built on energy extracted from the planet.
I hope this makes some sense to you, and maybe helps a little. Sorry for rambling in response to your post, but it inspired me to put my thoughts, thanks for that.
Btw the storage solution also meeting the concerns of aviation, and the planet, and actually all other stakeholders, is hydrogen.
With this we can show we are fully conformant with all the demands of nature, there really are no harmful effects from using it, other than the usual safety hazards of flammable gas, but dealing with those with unlimited energy thus unlimited funds is a simple Engineering challenge as is conversion of all EVs and ICE vehicles to use hydrogen, and actually, scaling up the whole system.
Of course money has to change function, from being something transporting energy extracted from Earth to us, to something transporting energy from the sun to us, all of us, unconditionally.
I think that happens instantly on the issue of unconditional solar indexed stimulus.
We saw it already, during covid, when oil prices went negative.
I hope all this helps show how we can align the interests of all stakeholders.
BBtw (sorry!), the main tool I use for this is by Sparx, from your neck of the woods, down there in Australia.
This has to mean you have no shortage of Systems Engineers down there who could go through this kind of analysis with you, showing you how to do it as they go along.
The problem is that most can't work without profit as yet, they/we need at least the money to maintain the tools, and actually there are probably not many who would do it if they didn't need the money.
It is only insane people like me that actually enjoy it :)
