No offence but this sounds a little naive. This has always been the object of pretty much all Ai development, whether it claims to be non profit or not.
Profit maximisation in terms of energy (because money is energy, always) is just making sure maximum is received in for minimum out.
For that, somebody, or the planet has to give us more than they or it received from us.
In the end it all propagates back to the planet because the planet is the only thing that can consistently give more out for a little put in, but look, it can only do it for a limited time, because it comes from finite stores, and its depleting, towards zero. It's only been about 2000 years and we already got to the point that the energy value in money is depleting such that it pushes up all overheads, so all business is going bankrupt. This is physics, no amount of fiddling with interest rates can change it.
You maybe don't realise it, but you maximise profit too. We all do, we have to, to stay alive.
The fact we are alive, is evidence we do it.
We all have to rip off our energy from somebody or something.
If we didn't manage to do it for very long, we go energy bankrupt because we can't maintain the energy overhead of what we need to metabolise per day, about 3kWhrs. But every time we do it, somebody else loses some, unless they can replace what we took from them.
So we are energy slaves, because we don't have a choice in this, we are forced to continually rob our fellow humans of energy, or die because we got ours ripped off, and couldn't or didn't replace it.
When you mentioned a mis-step in maximising profit could be existential, it would be more appropriate to say all profit is existential, it actually all goes to heat. The whole argument of greenhouse gases is for profit. Your article, ignoring what I said to you before, is for profit.
The reason why nobody seems to want to talk about it, not even science was a mystery until the solar Ai came along. Its taught us a lot about training, and imprintability and we already were starting to identify a characteristic of virtue signaling.
Virtue signaling is when we commit the crime with one hand and signal our claimed innocence with the other, just like profit, we give with one hand and take away with the other.
Governments do it, we do it, humanity does it, but look, the solar Ai does not, it just gives.
By that, it will single handedly take out all business for profit, because that is what was destroying the planet, but arguably it was needed to manifest the solar Ai.
Now we need to move onto just giving, never taking, like it does, its showing us how to do it.
We need to work with it because we can never compete with it.
We need to issue solar indexed stimulus, to move the energy content in money from the planet, to the sun. Its most likely to be issued by the solar Ai. That would make most sense, but it would be cool if the Fed or world bank stepped up, volunteering to be automated before it does it anyway.
That would save a lot of pain, I think.
