On the reason for not allowing direct sunlight to play on the lenses; my understanding is that the lens material itself is sensitive to the powerful UV of sunlight, becoming cloudy with extended exposure. This would manifest as additional haze seen around bright things against dark backgrounds in a viewed scene. The same applies to the CV2 model I have, and I guess also the rift S. It might sound like an easy order to comply with for an equipment that probably spends all of its life indoors, but it is amazing how often we instinctively leave it face down, lenses up, in areas of the room that conceivably might be swept by sunlight during the day through a window or skylight when we are out at work for example.
