My work shows how Earth is just a kind of battery, trickle charged by the sun, discharged rapidly by all the work we've done at and by profit, which is intricately related and fully dependent on energy extracted from Earth.
At the heart of this is the fact that for any energy already used by nature on Earth to be given to us, we have to expend a little to obtain what we get out of it. We get a lot of Joules out, for the relatively few Joules we put into splitting an atom, for example.
But the atom came from Earth, and a lot of the energy we got out of it was lost to heat.
The end result is we heated the planet a little, every time we split an atom, and every time we use the energy yielded by it, by converting some of the heat to kinetic, or hydrogen, or anything other than heat, it is a losing game because what we can't use becomes pollution, toxic to all of life, and all of it came from a cooled state on Earth in the first place.
Similar analysis applies to extraction of energy from Earth by whatever means we can identify, cutting down and burning a tree, even wind, and hydro, none of them come for free, for every Joule gained there is a mathematical relationship, that describes what we get out vs what we put in, in terms of energy.
Notice money is energy, we exchange it for energy in markets. Therefore the Same applies to money. When we do deals for profit, energy is transferred, to the party making most profit, relative to the environment they are situated in.
A person in a poor place doing a deal for profit with a person in a rich place also for profit, transfer between them an amount of energy, always from the poorer place to the richer place. This is the illusion of wealth generation by profit. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer, always by profit, in terms of energy transferred. The Earth is the sole supplier of all the energy transferred by that system, most of it ends up heat one way or another, ejected from a car tailpipe, an uninsulated boiler, nuclear power station outflow, an uninsulated house, even just our bodies, it all ends up as heat.
The drive to maximise efficiency / profits just slows this process of discharging Earth just slows it down, it can't stop it or even reverse it.
Humans are the ones practicing profit, in general, no other living thing lives like this, by the systematic destruction of all other life, so we are systemically solely responsible as a species for the damage done.
We maybe do need to all accept our individual part in this, we all worked for profit in jobs, bought stuff in shops and drive, or drove cars, didn't we? We had to, to survive at least, even if we didn't personally become "well off", or billionaires, we all contributed, or perished.
Apply similar logic to solar and we see our use of it is the opposite, mathematically, from what we did at profit, any use of solar at all, over what nature might use it naturally for is a triumph of temperature reduction, and actually creation.
But notice unlike Earth, the energy emitted by it is received by us for nothing, no Joules are transfered to sun in return for the Joules we receive from it, they are truly given for free.
It is true we need to do some extraction from Earth to get the initial infrastructure in place to receive what we need from it, but after this seed of infrastructure is created, further energy needed to maintain it, and even scale it to any capacity, can be obtained from the energy already received.
This is what I mean by historically created economic product, a journey in an EV that saved someone paying for some fuel, a boiler heated by sunlight saving some money on an energy bill, or creation hydrogen by electrolysis, all of it is economic product, which when we do the sums is already at many hundreds of billions, if not trillions for the larger countries, in every developed country.
This can only be monetised by money given for free, so as to represent the energy received for free. Inflation has to keep getting worse until this is done, honestly, and forever.
Compare now with how a plant works, it issues nutrients internally in response to Joules received by its leaves, passing those on to Earth, what it does not need to grow itself.
Money is our human equivalent of nutrients.
Notice also the plant ran up an energy overdraft to Earth until it formed leaves.
Notice all living things run up energy overdrafts to their mother hosts, until they are born from the energy of the host to the energy of the environment of the host.
Our species is simply at the point of being born as a species.
So far we have not issued much in response to what our leaves (solar infrastructure), have collected but this will have to change.
Massive stimulus has to happen sooner or later, it will be driven by millions upon millions, even billions of desperate, starving, homeless people.
Us lucky enough to be in developed countries thinking we might be safe from this, are not safe at all, until it is fixed, the only way it can be fixed.
The sooner we do it, the sooner we reverse the flow of energy discharge, and start charging, creating, cooling, being born as a species.
It can't really get started until the free money enabling it all starts to be issued.
