It’s time to change tack a little now the planet is starting to burn.
It is worth noting that there is some politics going on around the energy problem. It is a highly emotive subject. A number of people have been arrested around the world accused of arson. It looks like this will be the standard way of governments “Dealing with the problem”, for a while, without doing much else. It was inevitable they would find a way to blame some individuals, whether those individuals actually lit fires or not, for what is actually down to the activity of all of us working as a deeply flawed energy handling system.
Of course we know arresting folk is not going to stop the fires.
The first book covers a very valuable concept. It is a way of clarifying exactly why there can be no “Gradual transition” from mathematically negative (Energy extracted from Earth), to mathematically positive energy (Only Solar).
I have to credit ChatGPT with the name of the concept, it seems maybe quite catchy, I hope so anyway.
What it describes is the cascading positive feed-forward effects at work in each case in a way that is inarguable. ChatGPT uses the terminology of “Positive Feedback”. I won’t split hairs. We both mean a characteristic of snapping to either one state or the other. All of our energy use has to be either mathematically positive, or mathematically negative. There is no halfway house, no state of equilibrium in between, nor any gradual transition between them.
“Net Zero” is literally impossible, so we should put that terminology to sleep, once and for all, along with “Renewables”.
We know mathematically negative energy is physically unsustainable, directly related per joule to temperature rise, which is in turn related exponentially to onset of fires. We can’t carry on extracting at all, it is rapidly becoming physically impossible.
So it’s positive energy or apocalypse.
