Martin as someone living in UK I agree with you, it is pretty comical and bizarre, we couldn't make it up if we tried. But you seem to be unaware of the part played by the US in all of this.

The basic problem is that all politicians seem to have become driven to the point that all they care about is their own jobs in the bullshit industry of politics, taking payments fom the highest bidders, not only in UK, but also in the US, and this has been the state of play for quite a long time, way before Brexit, and Trump, although he was one of the first to be honest about it, the events we are seeing, including even the climate and energy problems are all symptoms of the same thing, the need for everyone to compete and grab what they can, by whatever means, it seems to me. There is no such thing as left and right, or even any kind of law and order any longer, it means nothing, the politicians and we the people are all the same, desperately competing for our share of a diminishing pie. Still none of ours admit it, and definitely none of Bidens team.

The diminishing pie I mean is the energy of Earth, which includes the human lives on Earth, which is being squandered in ever bigger bucketloads, causing directly the climate effects we are seeing, and even the inflation we are seeing, with the war in Ukraine being one of the best ways we've found yet of doing that.
