Thanks for posting, interesting story.

Looking only for evidence of lasers, and dismissing on their absence seems a little limiting though.

There are surely other forms of energy which the sun’s energy can be converted to, in order to efficiently harvest it.

Nikola Tesla thought so. He was aiming to use a kind of electron charge collection process, like the old technology of cathode ray tube valves and TV, in his scheme of free world power, a hundred and twenty years ago.

Shame he was de-funded.

For sure we would have to find a way to power earth from the incident rays it already has from the sun, before we could contemplate anything remotely like a dyson sphere.

Where else would we get the power to construct such a thing.

No way will anything truly constructive on any of these fronts ever be done as a profit seeking exercise, and yet, without efficient utilisation of the sun’s energy very soon, we are done.

Bring on the free money!
