John doesn't it occur to you that covid, cancer, guns and all other weapons for harming one another, racism, sexism, slavery, drugs programs that cause massive loss of life, economic currency devaluation, and the final solution - nuclear weapons, in short, pretty much everything harmful we are seeing, are all manifestations of our depletion of the energy of Earth? On what will be the mechanism which finally ends us, -we are pushing harder and harder against all of the barriers which are supposed to prevent us from pressing a nuclear button, it will give way soon, if nothing fundamental changes.
I've described elsewhere this is also the fundamental reason we can never escape our planet to go interplanetary, as long as we are dependent upon it for our energy, and we are locked into that dependence by the profit driven business model.
In safety engineering, we are taught that if the known worst consequences of taking a risk is unacceptable, then the risk should not be taken. When this is ignored, awful things like buildings full of people, clad with flammable insulation materials go on fire, killing most folk inside, and massive stores of raw fertilier products ignite in dock areas, devastating entire towns, planes fall out of the sky killing everyone on board, but we keep taking the risks, because money which is based on promises to extract appears to be getting ever tighter, as it does, when things to extract become scarcer and scarcer.
If there is / was such a thing as actual extraterrestrial visitors from somewhere else, to Earth, they would conclude we are doomed, because they would know this from their own history, which probably had a profit driven phase, but which had to end, in order for them to be "Born" into a species capable of going interplanetary. Otherwise they would be extinct also.
Now, if / when we blow ourselves into oblivion with nuclear weapons, they will conclude very simply that we didn't learn how to remove our requirements for energy from the energy of our planet.
If we don't end ourselves by nuclear weapons then it will be by something else manifesting from the exact same root problem. But, nuclear oblivion is becoming more and more like the most likely scenario, right now, as far as I can see.
