It is a cheap shot, to try to gaslight a thirty plus year practicing systems engineer with a comment related to star trek or something. There is nothing wrong with saying you don't understand what is being said, I would not be surprised with that, I know very few people with my experience and background, so the normal reaction should be "Tell me more", if I am trying to explain something technical that I have researched, and you might not have.
