Interesting views, thanks for posting.
Personally, I believe Elon’s, and your own fears, if I have interpreted you correctly, are based on projecting your own mindsets onto how you believe an Ai will think.
Elon, and presumably yourself, are both driven by profit, in that your principle reasons for studying Ai are to make money.
That causes you, and the vast majority of folk living in our modern profit driven world, to be suspicious of all other people and all things, as you unconsciously assume they will also be driven by profit, therefore you perceive all to be in potentially hostile competition with you.
It seems necessary to maintain a nihilistic view of life in order to sustain any personal justification of life driven by profit, but I digress.
More to the point, the profit-driven characteristic is an animal limitation to intellect, which results in us mistakenly believing our intellect is greater than it actually is, as we have to blind ourselves to all ideas of non-profit values, such as faith, or any possibility that intelligence itself may have any dimension of love of other creatures and creations in its own right. This limitation seems to manifest in many misconceptions as to the nature of an AGI, expressed in statements implying that the AGI will somehow have an “Owner”, yet contradicting ourselves, acknowledging that the AGI will effectively have god-like powers.
As I see it, it is only the profit-driven who have fears over the nature of an AGI, as they will not have control of it, they will see it as potentially hostile, thus it is highly unlikely that a true AGI will ever emerge from profit driven efforts. And yet most efforts towards AGI appear profit driven.
So, we are still a long way from seeing an AGI yet, in my opinion.
