Interesting story, on what is an “after-death wail” of a satellite.
Especially for anyone who has worked building and launching satellites for a while, and with a lifelong interest also in sci-fi, that led to things including satellites, there are a number of possibilities which could be powering the transmitter, the solar cells in absence of the usual properties of connected battery sounds highly likely, though not the most exciting.
There is an orbit outside geostationary that in the industry was known as “The graveyard orbit”, where all still controllable end of life satellites are retired. There must be a very large number of those now.
I wonder how many more will add to the satellite after-death wail in the future?
