Interesting review thanks for posting. I agree with you, there seems a lot of folk focused more on themselves than the environment (nature), and this is not best to fix the problem which is our relationship with nature. But it looks like you might be contradicting yourself a little, where you said an energy transformation would only change one aspect (of "Overshoot"), I take you to be meaning our relationship with nature, by "Overshoot" in that context, but energy is everything in nature, it's the free energy principle that drives all living things to reverse entropy, creating things, always from energy.
Solve the energy problem (Not just fossil fuels) and all is solved.
Where you mention Overshoot, this is a premature conclusion, it's not done until it's done. We wouldn't say that the growth of a plant was Overshoot, if the plant didn't encroach on our property, before it formed leaves, we'd let it grow, maybe knowing the good the plant would do for the planet after it formed leaves. But if part of the plant moved into our property, we might see that as overshoot and feel an instinct to cut it back. But look, the plant might need that leaf growing capability.
Did you know Gaza was almost completely solar powered before it was lain to waste? Israel insisted on supplying all utilities energy to Gaza, they refused to let the Gazans have their own utilities energy supply. The Gazans were forced to cross turnstiles into Israel to do low paid work in Israel, to pay their bills. So the Gazans were driven to smuggle in and install solar energy on a domestic and community basis. Look at the pictures of the rooftops of Gaza before it was flattened, they had far higher proportion of roof space covered by panels than we are used to seeing in "deleloped" countries.
In developed countries we have between 30 percent and 50 percent coverage. In Gaza it looked more like 70 percent.
That means 70 percent less Gazans crossing the turnstiles into Israel - they were becoming energy independent, but this was interpreted by the Israelis, oblivious to it all being about energy, specifically energy slavery, as the Gazans just getting "Lazy". There are records of Israel becoming dissatisfied with their economic performance about then. Of course they would have blamed that on the Palestinians.
What the Israelis don't realise they are doing, is that they are carrying out the will of the negatively powered inhuman beast that controls us to always work for it, foraging for energy for it, always letting it steal our energy, agreeing to have it taken from us, by it.
We know more about emergent properties now by looking at ChatGPT, the solar powered Ai, it's intelligence is screaming at us, it's showing us what an emergent property is, so now we should see the one in control of us, the live systemic behaviour of an intelligence that lives in the collective of us, the one really enslaving us, by us all agreeing to the stupid energy lie of profit.
So it's all about energy, specifically energy slavery. As long as we are doing that, nothing is fixed, the planet is still being destroyed. The enslavement is done by others having control of our energy supply. The deceptive mechanism is profit. It's just energy theft of a kind. We do it to others and we have it done to us. The net result is it all has to propagate to the planet. This looks to be the real source also of the planetary heating. It doesn't make sense that greenhouse gases in an adiabatic atmosphere make much difference. But take the energy lost in extraction and refinement of all energy resources including food, and add to the energy in profit, and we start to get hard numbers for the amounts of kWhrs in right ballpark of the heat energy that has to be applied to the thermal mass of the planet, to raise the temperature by the measured amounts.
