Interesting Medium seems to be downgrading stories questioning economy, like this one.
Also it seems to be downgrading stories offering the solution, like mine.
Yet these things are existential.
For sure economists seem to ignore the issue of rising debt.
The problems of increasing debt, homelessness, massive inequality, rising discontent with government, hostile foreign policies, racism, sexism, fascism, corporate authoritism, and even global environmental pollution are very obviously linked, and economists fail to connect, it seems.
The underlying cause is that which pits all humans against one another in a deadly battle for riches or death, the same mechanism that moves all wealth from the weak to the strong; profit.
Allowed to complete, it will end humanity with extinction, no less, that is a certainty, but still it is ignored.
That mechanism might have been necessary when the world was truly a zero-sum box, isolated economically from the original source of all energy, the sun, forcing us to extract all energy for human wealth generation from Earth.
But I doubt it ever was.
That it is no longer true is absolutely certain as we can now see with Bitcoin, now we are converting the energy of the sun directly to tokens created by work done by the sun, and exchanging those for large sums of fiat money-as-debt, but even the Bitcoin enthusiasts fail to recognise the effect of that, free money, added to the world economy.
A typical reaction by influencers, as shown recently by Max Keiser, for example, is to quantify the world economy by a number of dollars, “Four hundred Trillion”, which confirms his perception, and assertion that the world is a zero-sum box.
The sun is literally donating wealth, which can be freely scaled to infinity, but we fail to recognise it, far less pass it on to one another.
By that we break an obvious, very simple law of nature.
Tracing it all back to source, we took things from Earth, all things created from energy put there for free by the sun, and sold to one another for profit, in order that we could transfer wealth away from our fellow humans to ourselves, we’ve done it now for thousands of years, manifesting even in colonialism, slavery, and racism, and we are still doing it, not just some of us, but all of us, victors and losers alike, seemingly unaware of the real underlying mechanism and cause; profit.
The banks could tomorrow declare all debt what it is, an energy deficit to our planet, nothing more, nothing less.
That done, we would see the obvious way to fix it, the only way, paying it back down by money created from sunlight, thus fixing all of the problems of profit.
It won’t happen until it is recognised by platforms like Medium, and economists, therefore it might never happen at all.
