Indeed it seems they made that transition maybe around 1948. Lots of us worked in "Defence", before it became apparent it wasn't defence at all, it was the opposite. I am not sure whether it ever was defence, to me we were deceived, not by people but an inhuman system which is itself alive. I use the tools I gained working in "defence" to analyse that system now, to work out what to do with it. I think the solution is there, in the form of an opposite system, in other words it is powered by the opposite polarity of energy, the energy from the sun, whereas the old negative system is powered by energy extracted from the planet. The negative one is unsustainable, and the longer we keep trying to prop it up, the more war and genocide we are going to see.
If you are really interested in genuine defence, you should look at what is driving wars - energy depletion, that is energy of all kinds, not just fossil fuels, though they are the bulk of it now, we have always extracted energy from the planet, at least for the last 2000 odd years, and we have desertified a large part of it in that time.
Its a complicated analysis, but rewarding, we get to understand what is really going on, and maybe the part in it we were supposed to play, but never been allowed to so far. I think we are getting close now to the folk that matter seeing the problem, and what needs to be done with money to stop the destruction, more or less instantly.
Profit is the problem mechanism, its monetised destruction, constantly pushing up entropy, this is the real reason for the temperature rise, the real reason for the climate problems as well as the wars, and the real reason for the constant energy devaluation of money. Its not about greenhouse gases, there can be no greenhouse gases because the atmosphere is adiabatic. The businesses setting up to address "carbon" are just adding to the problem by generating more profit, whilst fixing nothing, so the temperature increase is accelerating.
How can businesses for profit, fix profit? They can't, its impossible, so we have to do it voluntarily. But the good news is solar energy has to be monetised, and actually is long overdue being monetised, issue of the overdue funds will put money towards everything needed, including as necessary to instantly stop the wars and genocides - soldiers stop fighting when they no longer need to keep following orders for money, and officers no longer need to keep issuing orders to keep fighting if they too no longer have to do it for money. The problem is solved, all of it, by just throwing a large enough bucket of money at it - imagine if the 50Bn first sent to ukraine was just paid as a bribe to the Russian invading soldiers to go home. It wouldn't have felt much like a victory, but it would have been a huge victory that saved a lot of lives in Ukraine.
