Indeed, I don't always agree with Musk, I agree with you, it sounds strange to hear him talking of a UBI, thanks for posting.

But it is something technically possible, even inevitable, not only a small UBI, I mean a substantial UBI, fit even for Musk. I've been writing about it for years, maybe Musk sees it the same way, who knows. As I see it, we can easily do it, whilst even fixing all of the environmental problems, by monetising the energy of the sun, which we should also be living from, instead of fuels as out input. We have the technology to do it, according to my analyses as a thirty year practicing systems Engineer.

The only thing stopping it, is folk with capital not seeing that their greed is the problem, the only problem. They literally obstruct and pervert any and all discussions on the subject, hoodwinking folk into believing they have to be forever poor, unless we somehow manage to "climb up the tree", as perhaps they did themselves.

To me it seems obvious this is the actual reason behind the inflation we are seeing worldwide, money is not being issued on what it needs to be issued on, sunlight, instead of debt (Promises to do the labor of extraction).

Start issuing it on sunlight, acknowledging the Joules of energy already put to work from the sun, and we will see the currencies that do that, rebound in value, because at last, they will be representing something physical of actual value, the energy of the sun, that created everything we know, How can that not be valuable?
