Indeed, I agree with everything you've said here. Virtue signaling is something looking all the more conspicuous, it seems to affect writers and media a lot, especially those depending on their output for a living. To me the remedy for that has to be to remove their financial insecurity, replacing it with unconditional solar indexed stimulus, this would do the trick I think.
I see all of this as the systemic effects of everyone being aware of the relentless depletion of resources and other sources of energy available to us, the same thing causing environmental problems, which we are not dealing with effectively because there is financial incentive to treat only symptoms, never the cause of actual problems, because if the problem was fixed, all possibilities of profit are removed.
A circle is completed when this manifests as a tendency to turn more towards blaming "others" for everything going wrong, rather than recognise it as the systemic outcome of all of us being prisoners of the system of profit, this is where dooming comes from imho, older folk, being more heavily invested and having less to lose in lifespan, by the harm done, seem more prone to the dooming, which is like a pre-conditioning, or preparation for the atrocities of war.
I hope we are getting close to understanding this as a species, and that there is only one remedy, to issue money unconditionally to all, representing the good things done, that is everything powered by mathematically positive energy, the only one of which is the sun, rather than by any of the multitude of extracted (ie mathematically negative) sources we currently monetise by debt.
To get all doing good we have to incentivise it, I think.
