I wouldn't let the recent fiasco of covid vaccines color your view on that, a lot of lives were undoubtedly saved, the lives lost unnecessarily could be put down to the forces of profit taking over the efforts of covid vaccine development, suddenly it became profitable to have some folk die, it no longer looked like anything particularly good. But vaccines for lots of other things actually are really cool, and very necessary.
