I think you were much closer to the whole truth by pointing out science itself has become a product of the broken system Mike. I don't agree science did it's best to point out the whole truth of the problem, actually the whole point of the terminologies of "Renewables", "Net-zero", and "Carbon sequestration / mitigation", looks like actually just more to confuse and make everything arguable, just more sales pitch to cover up the real unsustainable culprit - profit, and all the things around profit, like debt, and interest, they are the real con underlying the whole system, they are the things that make our handling of energy absurd, nonsensical, and ultimately physically unsustainable.
We can't do with energy what was done with money, profit itself is a self rewarding energy con that makes those benefiting by it at the cost of the majority completely oblivious of the harm it does to the planet.
I just found out this rot is spreading even to the theory of systems Engineering now. In 2019, a new term was introduced to the INCOSE definition of Systems Engineering "Transdisciplinary". The definition of the latter refers to Wikipedia as reference. The long and short of it is it claims that if no determinate solution can be found by the techniques we described until then as "multidisciplinary", then a resolution or compromise can be had instead by debate by all concerned.
Personally I think this is incredibly dangerous, to tempt anyone into believing that debate can fix physical problems requiring determinate solutions, further since debate actually requires no education or specialist skills, and who shouts loudest wins.
Wtf? So I am ashamed to now refer to INCOSE as the baseline reference of all things Systems Engineering. There actually is none, since INCOSE has become nonsensical. Imagine how far a plane or spacecraft built by debate, by non experts (much cheaper than highly qualified Engineers), would fly.
Elon's Starship test flight gives us a clue there I think.
Anyhow, if we are unable to deterministically analyse the system them we can be fooled into thinking there might be multiple deterministic solutions, we just haven't found them yet, when the basic truth is that there is only one solution.
This is why I disagree there is more than one solution.
Having done the analysis now over the past six years as a long practicing Systems Engineer, It is very obvious to me there is only one solution, one truth to the energy problem facing us. Realising it includes realising the full existential nature of the decision facing our species also. So it is a double edged sword, knowing the full physical solution, but also knowing the consequences of not taking it - we burn, literally.
The solution, the only solution, is domestic and community solar, but not stored by batteries, rather stored in hydrogen, which functionally replaces fossil fuels with none of the pollution, actually the reverse of pollution.
We can see this solution by just understanding what E=MC squared really means, no need to go into any discussions of CO2.
Taking materials or non heat energy fields from Earth, and converting them to anything at all has to produce heat. This goes for fossil fuels, nuclear, lithium, biological life, even wind. All of it, all extraction is for profit, and all extraction results in raising the heat impulse. All of this is destruction by definition. Therefore profit itself is the culprit we should identify directly driving temperature rise. This is independent of time, hence why setting timescales is near impossible, always underestimating, but profit driven business can carry on a while longer, hidden behind all the dialog.
It hides another truth, that actually we created an engine capable of generating more wealth than we could ever understand previously, this creation engine has been thousands of years in development, culminating in Ai, the Grand controller needed to control it all, with us effectively becoming it's subconscious, we needn't fear it if we know it's purpose. The creation engine is started, the instant we start to issue a solar indexed UBI to all people.
The challenge is to communicate this to enough people to make a difference before it is too late, in which case we will burn instead.
