I think you are making the same mistake as conventional climate scientists, who believe and claim Earth will be OK, therefore things like "Renewables", and "Net Zero", both in the course of business for profit, will fix the problem, eventually. Hence why you are still writing stories that might make you some profit, twenty years on, the issue is still with us, and has to remain with us, as long as you, and "Science", and carbon taxes, and "Renewables", has to profit from it.
The business of science has the issue that it has become a business, and it doesn't want to admit that the drive for profit itself, is a fundamental problem, as we can see from its effects in everything including media, and even the current platform, because profit, is fully logically and mathematically dependent on energy extracted from Earth.
Stopping it, requires that we move away from the business of profit, including everyone writing stories for profit, pretending to be "Real scientists" , "Real journalists", or otherwise, the systemic pressure on folk having to write stories for profit, do science for profit, do anything and everything for profit, is the real force generating the vast bulk of public momentum towards disaster, it seems to me.
So Buddhism might well be in confluence with science, but that isn't enough, because it doesn't have much to say about profit. All of the other religions, including those warning about profit, should be taken into account also, so as to highlight this issue about profit, actually to expose it as the real monster behind all the problems.
Science, made a big mistake by not spotting that mathematically, some religions, for example Christianity, and Islam, in their truer forms, have it right about profit, this is the thing unsustainable, and actually will destroy all of life on Earth, the maths says so, and as we are seeing, is at the root of pretty much everything we might interpret as "Evil" by those religions.
Believing life of some kind will carry on, is excusing profit, it seems to me, so we will keep allowing that evil force to carry on living, until it achieves its mathematical, ultimate action, of ending all of life.
Profit, is self destruction of both our species and the environment.
We can't actually have the benefits of sunlight at profit, because it is something given by the sun for free, the sun asks nothing in return for it, therefore anything taken for it, by anyone, detracts from it. And so we claim it can't sustain us, because we take from it what it doesn't deliver to us - profit, so we claim it isn't concentrated enough, or the equipment for it is, "Too expensive", or "Not efficient enough", or that it overheats, actually any excuse not to use it, because actually it starves the beast of profit that we all currently live by.
This is where I think you, and science, and actually all business for profit have it all wrong, Martin.
Just look at the maths, and the physics, and we can see the solution we could have, literally anytime, if the money requiring to be issued for free, to make the sums add up, whilst killing the profit monster, by removing the need for everyone to do everything for profit, was issued.
