I think that is a better idea too, thanks for your prompt.
We might notice some things in nature seem almost designed for us to exploit. The body of fossil fuels, was one of those, though its usefulness has come to an end, we should recognise it was something we needed to get us to the level of technological sophistication for us to do like plants, and plug into the sun.
Now it turns out we have a technology of creating solar electricity panels from clear glass-like materials, like windows.
That sounds like exactly the kind of filter that might just convert a part of sunlight to electricity, which normally goes into generating heat, but maybe still allows through enough sunlight to still grow plants.
If so, it would be a cool experiment to try creating a kind of dual purpose greenhouse / solar farm made from those panels, situated in a desert place, to see what might be growable within, whilst generating some very useful, highly valuable clean energy and hydrogen fuel at the same time.
I can imagine some new, highly habitable, very valuable places to live, appearing like that if it turns out to be successful.
The desert areas could turn out to be even more useful than fossil fuels.
Desert areas near the sea would be ideal, as the nearby water could be processed not only for irrigation, using power from the solar panels, but also to create hydrogen fuel which could be exported, replacing fossil fuels.
Where do I sign up? ☺
