I see it as being something that could aid us in "doing the right thing" as a species. We are obviously at a point in our evolution where the energy of our environment is running thin. If we don't change that, by moving our dependence on the energy of our mother host, to become dependent instead on the energy of the environment of our mother host (the energy of the sun), then we could actually end up being a kind of stillborn as a species.
So maybe the FEP could be something existentially important.
To me it is.
