I remember the crash of '08 also, marriage of 13 years broke up just then for me, dark times. But times have changed hugely, more than we realise, I think. In 08 there was no such thing as Bitcoin, if the events of 08 never happened, Bitcoin probably would not exist, and we would all still be under the illusion that the bank really is just like a giant piggy bank, looking after our hard earned money to keep it safe (LOL). I remember still believing that, at the age of 45, like I still remember believing in the tooth fairy, at probably 3 or 4 years of age. How naive we were.
The bank literally has power of life or death over people, and is becoming the authority of law enforcement, by the wielding of sanctions etc, it is way past regulation, profiting from both sides of every war, and in fact, every dsipute between people.
Personally I believe banks should have been naturally ditched around 1900, when their function became a kind of bullshit business (Graeber - "Bullshit jobs"), when we should have moved to free energy courtesy of Nikola Tesla, who was defunded about then, by JP Morgan, his only funder, when it became apparent to both, that free energy meant free money.
How different things could have been - no wars, no nuclear weapons, no nuclear power, perhaps even Tesla, Einstein, and us already near immortal with infinite funds available for health, and space research, and an infinity of other things that might have been invented by all the geniuses instead killed in wars and famines.
But it is not too late to change, imho, we have the means now by the newer PV solar and hydrogen technologies, which together add up to more or less what Tesla was working on - same outcome, just 120 years delayed.
Now the writing is on the wall for banks, they either give in to the forces of nature and voluntarily start issuing free money representing the solar product already created in the economy, to be used to further scale up the solar capacity to 100% before inflation gets so bad it destroys their capital, like happened in Sri Lanka, or they just wait for it to be dragged down, driven by nature.
In any case, interesting times.
