I read your story with interest, thanks for posting. You might know there is similar tension between white men and women too, that there has been for a long time now, we might even say we are way ahead of you, much further into the crisis you describe.
To me there is now competition between men and women where there was none before.
Not many women would choose to do building work, for example, but plenty of women choose to do science, or drive vehicles like buses and trucks. The diffetence is that work has moved from manual to things done more mentally. But underlying it all is profit, which is gain of energy, we all have to do this now, both men and women, usually before they can start to think about having families and kids etc. Everyone has more and more demands put on them, and the availability of work to pay these bills has moved from mostly manual, to mostly desk or office work, requiring more education, which is never for free.
On those old values of working hard, it never was a natural instinct of humans to work hard, it's something indoctrinated by trauma, as one of your subjects described, we get traumatised by our parents into working hard, by being thrown in at the deep end, having to fend for ourselves financially, it's actually technically a system of energy slavery, we have no choice but participate in it or die, if we don't have parents to bail us out.
I happen to have been working on what I call the global energy problem for almost eight years now, voluntarily, for free, using my technical skills gained in industry and academia, it affects everything, hence why I responded to your story.
The for profit system is finally turning out to he physically unsustainable, it has to end soon with massive issue of solar indexed stimulus (SIS for short).
With SIS we will no longer need to work, we will have more money than we know what to do with, and this is a good thing because it will remove our nerd to keep destroying the planet.
I think the Elite know this and can see the writing in the wall. Profit is about done, it's ending, and that will be a really good thing, in more ways than we can imagine.
On how it will affect relationships - with all competition gone, leaving only collaboration, I think we will see renewed possibility of happy traditional men/ women relationships.
This is what I believe.
Though I am not young, I look forward to that happening, it will be the biggest party in history, when it starts, we will be partying for years, those that just want to party, the future is going to he very different from the past, for the better.
So I say to anyone lamenting loss of stable physical relationships, "hang in there" , not long now until profit is ended, by nature, and we can get back to being mammals again :)
